All of the other holes are very nicely sized, except for this one. I have big hands for a girl, and my pinky still slips into the hole. The left pinky hole on this ocarina is very big. When I first picked it up and played, my wrists and left pinky became sore very, very quickly. I have been playing it 1-2 hours per day. Now, I've only had this ocarina for a week and a half. The ONLY REASON I gave this ocarina a 9 instead of a 10 is because of the ergonomics. It may even add to it if you like the way it sounds.

Though I would add this doesn't detract from the over-all sound. This is partly due to my inexperience, and partly due to the ocarina being made that way. Also, the 3 highest notes(D, E, and F) tend to be airy, especially F. I didn't realize this until I tried to play my alto C pendant and was overblowing, making all the notes sharp. This ocarina does require a good amount of breath pressure. The low notes are beautiful and resonate in your hands, and the higher notes are very cheerful. The range plays from low A below middle C up to F above the treble clef(high F). There is no ocarina with a tone quite like this one. )Īs far as the tone goes, I would classify it somewhere between mystical and bird-like. (Thanks to Subakuryu for showing me how it looks held like a flute. That's not to say this is a small ocarina, because it is most definitely not! It feels great in your hands, and it can be held in a lot of different positions. I actually was expecting this ocarina to be bigger than it was. In my pictures you will see that my Dragon Tooth is mostly swirls of green and purple, but colors will vary by each individual ocarina. There is also a stamp on the backside of the ocarina near the voice(where the sound comes from) that says 'C', indicating what key the ocarina is in. The fingering is identical to the transverse layout though, so this is probably the most accurate way to describe it. I'm not sure if it would be classified as a transverse(sweet potato) ocarina, because of the shape. There are 10 holes on top, and 2 thumb holes on the bottom. The Dragon Tooth is a 12-hole Alto C clay ocarina. Granted, the picture on the website looks pretty different(color-wise), but it is still the most beautiful ocarina I have ever seen. This stunning ocarina caught my attention the very first time I saw it. So I began scouring the ocarina market for the best deal for the price. Size: 8.5 inches long, 3.5 inches wide, 1.75 thickĪfter two months of playing the pendant ocarina, I decided it was time to move on to something bigger, with more range. The key of C is known to convey the characteristics of purity and innocence.Range: 12 notes, 21 including sharps and flats Accurately tuned in the key of C, the DragonTooth has a 21 note range using the 12 hole Ocarina tuning system.įrom the concert hall to the meadow, keep this ergonomic ocarina in hand on your travels to enjoy your favorite songs with new found magic in every note.
